Featured Project: Jumeirah T3 Arrivals Lounge, Dubai International Airport

Taking its cue from residential design, the T3 Arrivals Lounge welcomes guests with a homely yet elegant design aesthetic. Created by Bishop Design by Paul Bishop, the interior scheme benefits from a lighting solution that uses layers of light to bring warmth and character to the space.

Throughout the lounge, light has been used to create visual points of interest and accentuate the natural stone feature walls, fabric wallpaper, beautifully crafted furniture, and bespoke artwork.

A trio of stunning ceiling coves, each with a two-tier composition, draw the eye and provide a seamless glow of warm light. The first sits above the reception desk and features circular lines of light set against corresponding gold bands. Further inside the lounge, a second circular cove has been embellished with a beautiful chandelier by Oggetti. Adjustable downlights provide additional illumination and pick out both the artwork on display and refreshments on offer. At a lower level, a gentle glow of light underneath the marble counter creates an eye-catching effect, while integrated shelf lighting softly illuminates displayed objects.

The third ceiling cove has a linear formation that creates a dramatic, well-proportioned centrepiece of diffuse lighting within the private VIP area. Integrated downlights have been carefully placed throughout to highlight the room’s artwork pieces and accentuate the materiality of the walls.

In the luxurious bathroom, a floor to ceiling mirror with a backlit sandblasted edge creates a striking visual feature and a flattering layer of illumination for guests, which is supplemented by recessed downlights and diffuse cove lighting.

The lighting scheme offers a selection of scenes to suit the time of day or guests’ needs. Programmed using a DALI control system, the lighting can go from bright and vibrant in the day to warm and cosy at night.
